Boys start season with 3 wins

The Green River High School boys basketball team started their season in strong fashion after earning three wins during a tournament in Riverton.

The boys defeated Cheyenne South 63-49, Cody 67-46 and Laramie 59-45. For head coach Laurie Ivie, while the team played three good games of basketball, the bond the senior players have formed was a major factor in the Wolves' success over the past weekend.

"This group of senior boys have been playing together for several years," Ivie said. "They have a special bond, and a unique chemistry. They play as a team, and work together as a unit."

Ivie said all the players are willing to fill whatever roles they need to in order to win. Ivie also said the team has implemented a new offense and defense, both of which she said players have been able to adapt to with ease.

At the Flaming Gorge Classic, the Wolves will take on three more teams during the course of the tournament. Ivie said the team looks forward to competing on their home court and getting a look at three new teams, Westside High School from Dayton, Idaho; Thunder Basin from Gillette and Ben Lomond High School from Ogden, Utah.

"Our goal this tournament is to get better every time we step out on the court, and stay focused on what we need to do to get to where we want to be in March," Ivie said.

Thunder Basin will also come to the tournament with three wins from tournament play over the weekend, having defeated teams from Denver, South Dakota and Nebraska.
