Volleyball team beats Riverton at home

Lady Wolves play three games last week and bring home two more wins.

The Lady Wolves kicked off last week’s competition with a win against Cheyenne East Tuesday evening in Green River. The Lady Wolves beat East in four sets, 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22.

This win got the Lady Wolves the momentum they needed to beat Riverton at home on Friday evening in four sets, 25-7, 25-15, 25-13.

“They played great volleyball,” head coach Rikki Shantz said. “Their talking was great and we did our best at shutting down their great outside hitter.”

During this game, the Lady Wolves needed to stay emotionally invested and consistent, she said, however, the team learned just how well it can work together.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolves played Cody and lost in four sets, 25-13, 25-16, 20-25, 25-16.

“We definitely came out flat,” Shantz said. “I was expecting to build from Friday and get another win.”

Shantz said the Lady Wolves noticed the difference between the two games and will use that as their learning experience. The team is starting to work well together.

“We are a young team, so I think it’s just taken this long to build the trust needed,” she said.

During the Cody game, the Lady Wolves put up a real fight in the fourth game, but they still need to work on their consistency.

The Lady Wolves regular season will be wrapping up within the next couple of weeks. This week, they will take on Evanston at home on Thursday at 6 p.m., while on Saturday the team will travel to Jackson and play at 2 p.m.

“We will be happy to be home. The home crowd has been great this year,” she said. “We hope to have a big crowd for senior night on Thursday.”

“We finish the year with our quadrant games. It will benefit us a lot to finish in the top two,” Shantz said. “Finding the consistent energy, focusing on controlling our mistakes, and the basics of serving and passing.”

Teams in the Lady Wolves’ quadrant are Star Valley, Evanston and Jackson.
