Man sentenced for voyeurism

A man who pleaded guilty to making inappropriate videos of women in restrooms, at their homes or at public events, will serve more than a decade in prison.

Ryan Michael Flaten, 28, Green River, appeared in front of two Third District Court judges on the 45 voyeurism felony charges and two sexual exploitation of children charges.

Though the crimes were similar in nature, they were two different case files, which were placed in front of Judge Nena James and Judge Richard Lavery.

The case that appeared in front of Judge Lavery had 16 counts of felony voyeurism. In exchange for Flaten’s guilty plea on nine counts, the others were dismissed.

He was given a 11.25-year to 24-year prison sentence with credit given for 188 days of pre-sentence confinement. This sentence is to run consecutive to the sentences he received in Uinta County.

The other case with the 29 counts of felony voyeurism and two felony sexual exploitation of children, Flaten appeared in front of Judge James.

In exchange for Flaten’s guilty plea on 12 counts, the remaining voyeurism and sexual exploitation of children charges were dismissed. He was given a 12 to 24-year prison sentence with credit given for 188 days of pre-sentence confinement. This sentence is to run concurrent with the other cases.

According to court documents, Flaten used Go Pro Cameras to videotape others while they were in a public restroom in Lyman, he also set up cameras in the dressing rooms at Goodwill and other stores and made videos of residents changing clothes while they were in their homes or taking showers.

He also made videos of women while they were in their swimsuits at the splash park. While he was at the Festival in the Park he used a camera to look up women’s skirts.

These videos were made in Sweetwater County, but others were made in Uinta County.
