Tennis season ends in Gillette

The Wolves had a good run during the tennis season.

The girls team took fifth while the boys placed ninth and the teams came home with a few players making the All-State list.

The teams competed in Gillette at the state tennis tournament over the weekend, with many of the teams making it far in the brackets.

Brett McKeehan, Jordan Anderson, Kaitlyn Sharp and Sydney Beutel made the All-State list. McKeehan and Anderson, competing in the Doubles No. 3, finished second in their division after being defeated in the championship round. Sharp and Beutel, competing in the Doubles No. 2 division for the girls, also took second place in the tournament.

In other doubles action, the team of Jarrett Atkins and Connor Friel advanced to the second round of the tournament before being eliminated. They then competed in the second round of the consolation bracket, where they were defeated. Jon Leininger and Elliot Potter also advanced to the second round of the tournament before being sent to the consolation bracket’s second round. The team did not advance further.

In the girls doubles brackets, Audrie Harrison and Kelby Pope were eliminated from the first round of tournament play. In the consolation bracket, the team advanced to the third round.

For Gabrielle Heiser and Megan Counts, while the pair were eliminated in the second round of the tournament, the duo fought their way though the consolation bracket, defeating a team from Powell to win the bracket and a third-place finish.

In the singles divisions, none of the players competing advanced out of the opening round and were sent to the consolation bracket.

Anna Kimbal and Caeden Grubb were eliminated in the first round of consolation games. Danny Christensen advanced to the second round of consolation play, while Haylen Cordova made it to the third round.
