The Lady Wolves swimming team continued to showcase their skills this past week at Big Piney and Evanston.
The Green River High School Lady Wolves swimming team took first in Evanston Saturday and they excelled at Big Piney Thursday evening.
The team picked up another state qualifier this weekend when Adrienne Merrick qualified in the 100-yard freestyle. Head coach Colleen Seiloff said this takes the team to 10 swimmers who are qualified for state and most of them are qualified in more than one event.
“It’s not bad,” Seiloff said. “A good goal would be 20.”
However, Seiloff said realistically they should have 15 to 20. Seiloff said she thinks it’s just a matter of time before they get to that number.
“We’ve got a lot of girls that are finally starting to drop times,” she said. “They’ve been working hard and learning how to swim tired.”
She said that’s a tough skill for swimmers to learn. As the season progresses, they get tired, and in order to excel they must learn how to push through and swim while tired.
“The better we get individually, the better the team will be,” Seiloff said.
This weekend, the team is going to travel to Cheyenne for the Cheyenne East Invite and then to Laramie for its competition.
“It’s good competition. We didn’t do so well against them last time,” Seiloff said about Laramie.
She said her team is competitive and they are building their confidence. They need to know they are competitive against a strong team like Laramie.
With the exception of the last chance meet, which is scheduled to take place in Green River Oct. 25, the team is going to be traveling.
Seiloff said it’s important for the girls to eat right, sleep enough and make sure their grades are where they need to be so they are ready to compete and don’t get sick with all the traveling.
