GRHS tennis duos play well at Regionals

The Lady Wolves lost two on the road this week and will need to get back to the basics if they want to improve.

The Green River High School Lady Wolves volleyball team traveled to Mountain View Thursday and to Casper Saturday to take on Kelly Walsh.

The Lady Wolves lost to Mountain View in four sets, 25-22, 25-16, 19-25, 25-18.

“We thought we could have played better that night,” head coach Rikki Shantz said about the Mountain View game. “They are very good. Their defense is some of the best we have seen this year.”

During the Mountain View game, the Lady Wolves fought hard and didn’t give up. Those were their strengths. As for the areas that need improvement, Shantz said they need to serve and pass the ball better.

“I think the girls realized how important defense is and how it can change the outcome of a game,” Shantz said.

In the game against Kelly Walsh, the Lady Wolves lost in three sets, 6-25, 17-25, 11-25.

“We had two players missing so I knew we would have a rough time, I did expect the girls to compete better (in game 1),” Shantz said.

Despite the losses, the team seems to work well together at times and they served much better in the Kelly Walsh game.

“I thought our defense looked more intense” she said. “We focused on the basics and being disciplined.”

Things the team will work on this week to prepare for their upcoming games against Evanston and Jackson are consistency and the basics of volleyball.

The team will travel to Evanston Thursday for a game and play Jackson at home at 1 p.m. Saturday.
