Lady Wolves volleyball team starts season

The Green River High School Lady Wolves volleyball team officially kicked off the season with five games in Cokeville last weekend.

Head coach Rikki Shantz said the team played and lost against teams from Cokeville, Lyman, Star Valley and Alta, Utah, but won against a team from Grace, Idaho.

In the game against Star Valley, Green River lost in three sets 25-15, 25-14 and 26-24. In the Cokeville games, the Lady Wolves lost in three sets 25-22. 25-20 and 25-23. In the game against Alta, Utah, the Lady Wolves lost in three sets 25-10, 25-23 and 25-20. The results for the other two games were not available. These results were obtained from http://www.maxpreps.com.

All of these games were non-conference games and the Lady Wolves are still trying to figure which positions are the best for each player.

“We played a lot of good teams this weekend,” Shantz said. “We as a team will understand that our goal is to get better every day. We will peak at the right time this season.”

The team will need to work on defense and hitting the ball efficiently, which will take them back to the basics, she said.

“We have a good number of freshmen. We are a little low on numbers in other classes,” Shantz said. “I know we will so much growth this year. We are quite young, but disciplined and determined.”

This weekend the team will travel to Gillette for more non-conference play. To prepare, the team will work on passing and serving the ball.
