Kids active at Sweetwater County Fair

Children were all over the Sweetwater County Fair throughout last week.

Whether they were showing animals for 4-H, riding rides, feeding animals or eating their favorite fair food, they were having a good time.

Some kids were excitedly feeding the animals in the petting zoo, while others were not quite sure about it. They would timidly put their hand out and then laugh as the goats tongue touched their hand to lick the oats they were holding. Once the children realized the goat wasn't going to bite them if they followed the directions and kept their hands flat, they became just as excited as the children who didn't hesitate.

Meanwhile, Aubrey Bryan, Haley Benson, Jordan Christensen and other 4-H members were showing rams and lambs at the fair.

At one point while Bryan was showing her lambs, one of them decided he wasn't ready to be judged and continued to fight with Bryan's helper until the lamb wound up on its back with all four legs kicking in the air, to which the audience responded with chuckles. The helper gently rolled the lamb back over and it seemed to behave for the rest of the show.

This wasn't unusual as some lambs fought with their handlers throughout the show, but that didn't discourage the 4-H members or the judge.

Other children made their way to the Exhibit Hall to visit with vendors, see what kind of candy they could have and what prizes they could try and win. Some children happily sucked on suckers, while others made decals at the Girl Scout booth.
