Police department hosts National Night Out

Residents will have a chance to meet some of Green River’s police officers Saturday as the department hosts its annual National Night Out festivities.

According to Green River Police Chief Tom Jarvie, the department has hosted National Night Out since 2004, though he admits the department hasn’t publicized the event until recently.

“We’ve been doing it for quite awhile,” he said.

Residents can host barbecues and block parties in their neighborhoods and register them with the police department. Officers will visit the block parties and introduce themselves to residents and even take part in events at the parties. The event aims to promote relationships between neighbors, as well as the police department and the city’s residents.

Jarvie said the department continues to receive block party registrations and isn’t aware of how many will take place.

The department will also host an open house Saturday afternoon from 1-3 p.m. Jarvie said the open house will allow residents to visit with officers at the department.
