All-Star teams face tough competition

Two Green River All-Star Baseball teams will continue competing, while one team wrapped up its season this week.

14U All-Stars

This team is managed by Nathaniel Liebelt and consists of boy baseball players 14 and under. The players on the team have all played on little league baseball teams and were selected to play on this team.

During their short season, the team played against Rock Springs and Kemmerer and they were highly competitive in these games, Liebelt said.

This past weekend, the team traveled to Price, Utah, for its tournament. Teams from Colorado, Wyoming and Utah were in attendance and the competition was tough.

“It could have gone better,” Liebelt said. “We played some very competitive teams.”

Despite losing all four games at the tournament, Liebelt said his players improved from game to game, never gave up and did the best they could.

“I’m proud of the effort the boys (gave),” Liebelt said.

The 14U team was going to head to state this weekend, but the game was canceled when the one and only other team attending backed out. Liebelt said the season ended abruptly, but it was sure a good learning experience for them.

12U All-Stars

The 12U All-Star team, which is managed by Joe Hamel, played and won its first game in Kemmerer. This team consists of little league baseball players who were picked for this team.

This week they will travel to Lovell to compete in the district tournament.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to go and compete in the district tournament,” Hamel said. “We will play hard and be aggressive on the bases and hopefully we have a good week.”

The top two teams at districts will advance to the state tournament, which is scheduled to take July 27-28 in Powell.

10U All-Stars

The 10U All-Star baseball team is managed by Rocky Akin and is made up of little league baseball players who were selected to be on the team.

The team has been having a pretty good season, with a couple of wins under their belt. Like the 12U team, this week, they will travel to Lovell to compete in the district tournament.

“I’m very excited for this group of boys,” Akin said. “There has been a lot of hard work put in and I think it will pay off with a very successful tournament.”

The top two teams at districts will advance to the state tournament, which is scheduled to take July 27-28 in Powell.

“These boys play very well together. (They’re) always encouraging each other and working hard,” Akin said.
