Candidate filing concludes

With the election filing period ending Friday, races have developed for all of the Green River City Council positions up for election.

Mayor Pete Rust is being challenged in his re-election bid by Mark Peterson. Peterson had previously served on the council and launched unsuccessful bids for Sweetwater County Commissioner and Mayor of Green River. Peterson’s campaign will be the second time he and Rust vie for the mayor’s office.

Other races for council positions remain unchanged. Ward I will have Jim Zimmerman, Sherry Bushman and Terry Leigh seeking election. Ward II’s race is between Andrew Morrison and Michael Shutran, while the Ward III race is between incumbent Gary Killpack and Edward Paisley.

A number of candidates have filed to run for Sweetwater County Commissioner in the final days of the filing period. There are now five Republicans seeking election, with incumbents John Kolb and Randy Wendling joined by Green River residents Allan Jarnagin and Roy Lloyd and Rock Springs resident Jeffery Smith. Two Republicans filed to challenge incumbent Democrat Mike Lowell for Sweetwater County Sheriff, Delbert Gray and John Grossnickle. For Sweetwater Clerk of District Court, Democrat Annette Eychner filed to challenge incumbent Republican Donnalee Bobak.

Other county races remain unchanged. For Sweetwater County Clerk, the race is between incumbent Democrat Dale Davis and Republican challenger Cindy Lane. Republican Perri Rubeck and incumbent Democrat Dave Divis will seek election for Sweetwater County Assessor. Sweetwater County Coroner Dale Majhanovich, Sweetwater County Treasurer Robb Slaughter and Sweetwater County Attorney Dan Erramouspe are uncontested in their re-election bids.

In Granger, three people are competing to be the next mayor. Incumbent Sandy Allen is challenged by Bradly McCollum and Anselmo “Hippy” Valerio Jr. Susie Jorensen and Karen Cuckle seek election to an unexpired term on the Granger Town Council, while Travis Ames is uncontested for his bid to a four-year term on the council.

For local races involving the Wyoming Legislature, races remain mostly unchanged. In Senate District 13, Republican Tom James and independent Ted Barney challenge incumbent Democrat John Hastert for his position in the Senate. House District 17’s race remains between incumbent Democrat JoAnn Dayton and her Republican challenger Traci Ciepiela.

In House District 18, a primary election race has developed between Republicans Scott Heiner and incumbent Thomas Crank. Democrat Stan Blake in House District 39, Republican Clark Stith in House District 48 and Democrat John Freeman in House District 60 are unchallenged in their re-election bids.
