A well-known performer will take the stage for the Sweetwater County Concert Association’s last performance of the 2017-18 season.
On Friday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Middle School in Green River, Cahal Dunne, will perform. Dunne, “Ireland’s Happy Man” is a composer, classically trained concert pianist, story teller, comedian and television personality. His style is rich and deep, reflecting the many strands in his distinguished career. He has performed with Bob Hope, Al Martino, Tony Orlando and has performed for several American Presidents. With his Irish to Broadway to country repertoire, a great show is guaranteed.
Dunne is the nephew of the former Prime Minister of Ireland, Jack Lynch. In l974, he received his bachelor of music degree from the University College of Cork and had several hits in Europe. Dunne started a band in Ireland in 1977, and against all the odds they made it. They won the equivalent of American Idol in 1979 with his own song “Happy Man.” It was his first No. 1 hit, but they were always fighting the recession and many dance halls closed, Dunne had two choices: go back teaching or emigrate, so Dunne emigrated. He’s glad he did, and enjoys playing and singing more than ever all over the U.S.

All tickets will be available at the door the night of the concert. The association will offer memberships for the 2018-2019 concert season at this performance. There are four concerts scheduled for next year.
About the Concert Association
The goal of the association is to provide the best in professional entertainment for Sweetwater County audiences at the lowest price possible. Since 1939, they have brought in such diverse artists as the Vienna Boys Choir, the New York Theatre Ballet, the National Folk Ballet of Yugoslavia, Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band, Shanghai Acrobat & Dance Theatre, the Ronnie Kole Trio, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Riders in the Sky, Eileen Ivers and Dallas Brass.
The association provides opportunities whenever possible to have the artists perform in local schools with the goal to allow children to interact with and be inspired by these gifted artists. The association also funds a scholarship program to provide for local students who need help with costs associated with music education. They have given help for items ranging from concert attire to instrument rental or repair to travel expenses.
The association is run by local volunteers and has no paid staff. They book the majority of their concerts currently through Allied Concert Services in Minnesota. Funds are raised through the sale of individual concert tickets, the use of grants and fundraisers, and combining with other local groups to share costs. The group still holds a fall membership campaign and offers a substantial cost savings to association members who form the core of their financial support. Funds from this event allow the association to continue without raising membership fees or individual concert ticket prices.
