The Lady Wolves season ended in Jackson at the regional tournament when the team lost its first game.
On Thursday the Green River High School Lady Wolves took on Natrona County and knew they had to win to advance to state.
The Lady Wolves struggled this season with injuries, but that didn’t stop them from working hard. Despite their efforts, the team lost to Natrona, 66-32.
“I was just pleased with how hard the girls worked in that game,” head coach Rick Carroll said.
During the game, the Lady Wolves carried out a plan the coaches had come up with. It helped prevent the leading scorers from putting as many points on the board, but it didn’t stop the other players from stepping up and making the shots.
Even though the Lady Wolves did have better ball control, they failed to make the shots out in the field and at the free-throw line.
As for the seven seniors, Braylee Scicluna, Andri Dewey, Georgina Barrios, Aaliyah Brady, Maryrebekah Shafe, Hannah Hix and Alex Palmer, it was the end of their high-school basketball careers.
“They got along really well throughout the course of the season,” Carroll said. “They were good role models for the younger ones and they had a good work ethic.”
A lot of the basketball players are in multiple sports and have probably already started practice for those, Carroll said.
However, about seven players from the Lady Wolves team will have to be patient and rehab the injuries they obtained in basketball.
For the Lady Wolves returning to the team next year, Carroll wanted to encourage them to practice their shooting and ball-handling skills. He said basketball is one of those sports where one can practice on their own.
