Two conference games, 2 losses for Lady Wolves

The Green River Lady Wolves girls basketball team played two away games this past week and came back with two losses in conference play.

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves took on Evanston and at the end it turned into a real nail-biting game as the Lady Wolves and Lady Red Devils continued to change leads with a mere 2 minutes left in the game.

“We just really fought hard. We gave ourselves an opportunity to win,” head coach Rick Carroll said.

He said they had a really great fourth-quarter come back. At one point, the Lady Wolves were down by as much as 15 points in the game, but were able to come back and even take the lead.

“We had to come back. We did a good job,” Carroll said.

The last play of the game was when a Lady Red Devil made an offensive rebound and put it in the basket just as time ran out.

It was a tough loss for the Lady Wolves, but Carroll said it was a good game to watch. He said the Lady Wolves fought hard, never gave up and almost came up with the win.

On Friday, the Lady Wolves took on Jackson and Jackson came out on top, 54-37.

“I thought we struggled at the start of both games this weekend,” Carroll said.

However, at Jackson the struggles didn’t stop in the first half.

“We struggled throughout the entire game,” he said.

Against Jackson, the Lady Wolves just couldn’t get into a flow, they shot poorly and they had some defensive breakdowns, he said. The team wasn’t able to get a run going and Jackson was prepared and ready for them.

Carroll said they just couldn’t find anyone on the Lady Wolves team to lift the team up and get momentum going.

“It was tough to coach,” he said.

The team will need to regroup because this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. they will play the Rock Springs Lady Tigers in Rock Springs.

“It’s just a fun game for fans and a fun game to go to,” Carroll said.

Leading the team against Evanston, was Andri Dewey with 24 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and three steals, Ashelyn Birch with 14 points, 11 rebounds and two steals and Zoe Turner with 11 points, two rebounds, three assists and one steal.
