Wolves remain undefeated

The Green River High School boys basketball team continue their undefeated streak after competing in the Flaming Gorge Classic over the weekend.

The team competed in three days of basketball action, taking on Westside High School from Dayton, Idaho, Thunder Basin High School from Gillette and Rawlins High School. The Wolves defeated Westside 75-60, Thunder Basin 60-54, and Rawlins 71-51.

"Finishing strong at the Flaming Gorge Classic was a confidence boost for our guys," head coach Laurie Ivie said.

Ivie said the three games were tough competition for the Wolves and showed them the hard work the team has put in during practices has paid off. Ivie said she was impressed by maturity the Wolves showed during the final stretch of their game against Thunder Basin. Gavin Heiser and Cameron Morris were eight for eight from the free-throw line in the final moments of the game.

"We took care of the basketball and did what we needed to do," she said.

Overall, Ivie said she's pleased with the adjustments the team had within a week of their first games in Lyman. The players have been focused and share the ball. In all three Flaming Gorge Classic games, multiple players scored in the double digits. Ivie said the weekend's contests also show there are several players who can score and the team itself can play great, team-focused basketball.

With the upcoming Chirstmas break, Ivie said the team will practice regularly with the exception of Christmas day.

"Our focus will never change. Taking every single opportunity to get better, regardless of what we're working on," Ivie said.

After the break, the team will travel to Cheyenne for their final basketball tournament before their regular-season games. The Wolves will take on Laramie, Sheridan and Fort Collins, Colo. Ivie said she's looking forward to the tournament as both Laramie and Sheridan have been ranked in the top five basketball teams in Wyoming.

"We are looking forward to the opportunity to play more 4A competition, and are ready for the challenge," Ivie said.
