Girls earn 3 wins at Flaming Gorge Classic

The Lady Wolves had the home-court advantage this weekend during the Flaming Gorge Classic and they made the best of it.

The Green River Lady Wolves played four games. The first was against Thunder Basin, and it was tough on the Lady Wolves when Thunder Basin came up with the win 78-46.

"The struggle was ball security. We had a lot of turnovers," head coach Rick Carroll said. "Also, we did not finish at the rim and take advantage of easy shots and that really put us in a hole."

Even though the team struggled in the first half, in the second half the Lady Wolves settled down and were competitive. The lesson learned from this game was they can be competitive, they just have to work hard and trust their abilities, Carroll said.

For the next game, the Lady Wolves took on a team from Randolph, Utah, in Rich County, and came out on top, 61-53. Carroll said this was a victory in with a number of contributions were made from a number of team members.

"We shared the ball well and found open shooters," he said.

The Lady Wolves didn't turn the ball over and took advantage of the offensive opportunities.

"In all of the games we need to improve our boxing out," Carroll said. "This will improve our ability to limit our opponents shot opportunities. This was a good victory after the tough loss on Thursday."

During the game against Rawlins, the team once again came out with a victory, 57-50. However, with every game, there is always something a team can work on and Green River is no different.

"We did a very good job of rebounding in this game," Carroll said.

The team also did a good job of moving the ball offensively and finding the open opportunities.

The Lady Wolves will still need to work on are ball security, boxing out and rebounding. "We will also spend a considerable amount of time on shooting skills to improve in that area as well," he said.

On the fourth and final game, the Lady Wolves played Pinedale and added another win to their non-conference games with a 43-38 victory.

"We played a little tired and had some struggles offensively, but did a good job in man defense," Carroll said.

The Lady Wolves also struggled from the free-throw line, but they worked hard throughout the weekend and they were glad to get back on the winning track for the last three games, Carroll said.
