Lady Wolves set their sights on a new season

With a little less than a week's worth of practice under their belts, the Green River High School Lady Wolves basketball team is looking forward to their first game.

Head coach Rick Carroll said the team is just getting used to playing with each other. The team's been fortunate to have six seniors returning to the team and they have been helping out the younger team members.

Carroll said the practices they have had so far this year have been positive.

"The girls are working hard," he said.

As for team goals, the coach hasn't had a chance to go over them with the team yet. He did however pass out goals sheets he wanted each player to fill out. He asked them to fill out both individual and team goals.

"Obviously, we want to play at a high level," Carroll said. "We have a lot of good returning players."

Once the goal sheets are filled out, Carroll will go over them. He wants to know what the Lady Wolves want to accomplish and what they think they are capable of accomplishing. Carroll said filling out those goal sheets is just a good place for the team to start.

As for the first game, the team will travel to Lyman to compete in the Lyman Invitational Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the team will play Kemmerer at 7 p.m. Since the games are set in a tournament format, the Lady Wolves will not know which teams they are going to play on Saturday.

To prepare for the Kemmerer games, the Lady Wolves are working on their offensive sets and defensive plays.

They are also completing a lot of running drills just to see where everyone's at.

All of the Lady Wolves games until after the holidays will be non-conference games, which is a benefit to the team.

It gives the team time to see which players are best for each position because they can try things they may not be able to try during regular conference play, he said.
