Two games, two losses for Lady Wolves

Despite having the home court advantage, the Green River Lady Wolves volleyball team lost both games this weekend.

On Friday, the Lady Wolves celebrated senior night. It was a chance for them to show their seniors Andri Dewey, Braylee Scicluna, Hannah Hix, Georgina Barrios and Megan Yoak how much they were going to miss them.

"They are a great group of kids that have been committed for the past four years," head coach Rikki Shantz said. "We have worked so hard to build a culture of trust, family and hard work. They have been a huge part of that."

The evening was special, but the team still had to mentally prepare for Natrona County. The match up was tight, but Natrona County came out on top, 25-21, 29-27, 25-21.

"It was good to be home, but we played very tired and slow this weekend," Shantz said. "We didn't come out and play our good Green River volleyball. I don't know if we were distracted with senior night, injuries or just tired."

During the game against Natrona County, Shantz said the team did well at hitting the ball, however she felt the Lady Wolves beat themselves.

"Natrona County has improved on defense and that took us by surprise," she said.

After that game, Shantz said the Lady Wolves needed to bring more energy, focus, defense and passing.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolves battled against Kelly Walsh, but Kelly Walsh came out on top in three sets. The set's scores were not available on the Wyoming High School Activities Association's or the Wyopreps websites.

"We stayed close for the most part. We really tried to keep the game simple," she said. "Defense and energy seemed to be better than Friday."

Not only was the team lacking energy, they are dealing with some injured players. Shantz is hoping to have the team healthy by the end of the year.

"We hit a rough week. We are still working on peeking at the right time, but he had a bit of a hiccup this week," she said. "I know these girls and I know they will bounce back."

This week, the team will need to work on passing and defense.

They will also work on getting that energy and focus back. They will travel to Jackson Friday and on Saturday the Lady Wolves will play their last home game of the season against Evanston at 6 p.m.
