Golfers see improvements

While many activities have recently started long seasons that will take them through the fall semester, the Green River High School golf team is nearing the end of theirs.

Head golf coach Karly Eyre said next week will be the team's last week of competition as those qualifying for state will take part in the 4A Wyoming State Golf Tournament in Evanston.

A smaller inter-squad competition is planned at Rolling Green Country Club Thursday and Friday to act as a last chance opportunity for players to qualify.

So far, Eyre said she's very pleased with how well the team has improved during their short season.

Eyre said Brad Eveatt has been able to bring his score below 100, something both he and his coaches knew he could accomplish, while Connar Wilkins has played in the 80s during the Star Valley Invitational and the first day of the Rock Springs Invitational.

"We're really pleased with their ongoing efforts to improve," she said.

Eyre said the team is a younger group, with a total of 16 people.

Of that 16, she said 12 were beginners and six were completely new to the sport.

Eyre said she is thankful for the support she and her assistant coach have received from the district and parents, saying they were able to start the season on time despite being hired late in the summer break.
