Notes from Town Square: Intergalactic Spaceport Days

The fifth annual Intergalactic Spaceport Days are here.

Did you know that the Green River Intergalactic Spaceport is one of the top 10 unique airports, as voted by pilots in Flying Magazine and it is right here in our own backyard?

Also, the airport patches, stickers, and other merchandise (and directions to the airport) is one of the most requested items at the Green River Chamber of Commerce?

This weekend you can see for yourself as we celebrate Spaceport Days at the airport.  This event that is fully funded by a grant from the WYDOT Aeronautics Division, helps bring in people, planes, and enthusiasts to our area. Last year, we served approximately 200 people and are expecting an even larger turnout this year.

New this year, we will host a fly in/drive in movie on Friday night beginning at 8:30 p.m. The movie is the Disney/Pixar film “Planes.” On Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon, we will be having a pancake breakfast provided by the Boy Scouts and is free to the pilots.

The Boy Scouts will be accepting donations for their troop. You’ll also be able to explore the planes, helicopters and other flying machines while you’re there.

The Airport Advisory Board markets spaceport days to help build goodwill within the aeronautic community as well as provide information about the airfield.

Several agencies have used the airfield for local operations such as mosquito control and for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

Their work also helped to secure the field, and the runway is in the best shape it has ever been in. They continue to create awareness and are working at the state and national level to get grants to improve the airport.

They expect to get new fencing from WYDOT and the aeronautics grant in 2020.
