Brush fire contained

A fire at Little Bitter Creek Road has been contained after burning about 30 acres of land southwest of Rock Springs.

According to a media release from the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, the cause of the day-long fire is under investigation and is unknown. July has been a busy month for firefighters across the county as dry grass and, in many cases, man-made causes, has resulted in many blazes throughout the county. The Little Bitter Creek fire was reported Monday afternoon, with firefighters starting fire fighting operations at about 2:30 p.m. The fire was 100 percent contained by 10 p.m. Monday night.

The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office closed the Little Bitter Creek Road as a precaution to keep people from hindering efforts to fight the fire. The road has since been reopened. Multiple agencies and nearly 30 firefighters were involved in fighting the fire, including firefighters from Sweetwater County Fire District No. 1, the Sweetwater County Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management and the Rock Springs Fire Department.

Two aircraft utilizing chemical fire retardant flew in from Craig, Colo., to help fight the fire as well.
