The Green River URA/Main Street Agency is excited about this summer.
We kicked it off with a Movie in the Park. This event was hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department in the past and had to be cut due to budget restrictions, but we are thankful that we were able to bring it back as a free event for the public. Movies in the Park will be at Centennial Park on the second Friday of every month, through September. Be watching our Facebook page for the movie titles.
We also hosted our first summer-time Downtown Rhythms and Rhymes. Many local artists came out and shared their talent. It was a beautiful evening and it even resulted in one of our performers having the opportunity to perform at Flaming Gorge Days both nights as an opening act.
You never know when you might be “discovered,” so make sure you attend. We will host one every month during the summer on the second Thursday of the month. We start at 7 p.m. at the Clock Tower Plaza. Just bring your blanket or chairs. We provide complimentary refreshments.
Next up was our Chalk It Up event co-sponsored by the Sweetwater County Library. We had a fantastic turnout and everyone had a lot of fun. The weather was perfect and we saw many great pieces by the kids in our community. We definitely had some budding artists in our midst.
The judges really enjoyed themselves and we appreciate them for taking the time out of their day to help us out.
We did some fundraising for downtown revitalization by selling our now famous Green River Cheese Steak Sandwiches at the Festival in the Park during Flaming Gorge Days.
It was once again a success. Our booth was full of volunteers both days and they did a great job keeping up with the crowd! We sure appreciate our volunteers. We couldn’t do what we do without them!
Our Farmers Market started today and goes through mid-September. In total, that’s 11 weeks of fresh produce, bread, baked goods and other unique items for your enjoyment. The Green River URA/Main Street Agency will sell Beehive Cheese again as a fundraiser for downtown revitalization. We’ll have many of our regular vendors and also some new ones so be sure to come take a walk through every week. Attending the Farmers Market is a good way to help support local merchants and small businesses.
Finally, you may have noticed that we were only able to plant a portion of our downtown flower pots this year as a result of budget restrictions. We would love to have the community help by adopting a pot. It costs around $50 to plant the pot, and then requires watering either every day, or every other day depending on the weather. There are approximately 24 pots available for adoption.
