Weather impacts Lady Wolves' game

One word that could accurately describe Friday and Saturday’s soccer weather would be awful.

It was snowing, windy and cold; and all three of these factors impacted how the Green River High School Lady Wolves Soccer team played their games.

On Friday the Lady Wolves took on the Evanston Lady Red Devils and despite the terrible weather conditions, the Lady Wolves came out on top 4-1.

“That was probably the worst field conditions we’ve ever played in,” head coach Tracy Wyant said. “It was like playing in December.”

The snow made it hard for the players to see the lines on the field even though the snow was removed from the lines. Wyant said the Lady Wolves couldn’t dibble the ball, which forced them to keep the ball in the air through most of the game.

“We had to change the way we played,” Wyant said. “It was a challenging game due to the conditions.”

Some of the Lady Wolves had to come in during the game to warm their toes back up. She said it physically hurt the girls toes when they would kick the ball.

Despite all of the bad weather, Taylor Stoeger scored two goals, followed by America Zarate with one goal and Carly Kettering, who got one goal with a penalty kick.

On Saturday the Lady Wolves took on Jackson in the same terrible conditions and this time they lost, 0-1.

The Lady Wolves were sliding and slipping and having a tough time. Wyant said they just had to work harder throughout the entire game.

“It was a good evenly matched game,” Wyant said.

The Lady Wolves played well during the game, but things just weren’t going their way.

“That was just our off day,” Wyant said.

She didn’t know how else to explain it. Every time the Lady Wolves were doing well something would happen. They were just plain unlucky. The Lady Wolves played the Rock Springs Lady Tigers Tuesday night and came out on top 3-2 in overtime. The Lady Wolves needed this win since they are tied with the Lady Tigers for second place in the division. The Lady Wolves will use this momentum going into this weekend’s games.

The Lady Wolves will wrap up the regular season this weekend when they travel to play Natrona County and Kelly Walsh.
