Dear Editor,
I grew up in a small town in Nebraska and now live in Laramie. After working summers in Grand Teton National Park, the wildness in Wyoming greatly influenced me to stay in this wonderful state.
I have travelled extensively throughout the country as a tour guide and as a national park employee at three parks. There is something extremely special about the West, and especially Wyoming. The ability to escape to the backcountry and connect with the natural beauty of this state is something that I truly treasure.
I have become particularly fond of the Red Desert’s wilderness study areas in southwest Wyoming. We must continue to protect this unique region. It provides us a wealth of recreational opportunities and an abundance of habitat for wildlife.
We have the opportunity to save something that makes this great state so special. I recommend all of us exercise our civic duty by submitting comments on the draft resources management plan for the area, when it is released later this year. All it takes is a simple email or letter sent to the Rock Springs BLM office. Future generations deserve opportunities to enjoy the wilderness, just as I had growing up. So please, lets all do our part to protect what is left.
I will continue to fight for our wild lands in this beautiful state that I now call home, as I hope others throughout Wyoming will do as well. We must stand up for our open spaces, or we risk losing the spirit of Wyoming.
