Lady Wolves pick up a win in Jackson, prepare for Lady Tigers

The Green River High School Lady Wolves basketball team is hoping to use their win on the road as momentum for the next game.

Last Thursday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Evanston to take on the Lady Red Devils. It was a close game, but in the end the Lady Red Devils came up on top, 40-38.

“It was a good game,” head coach Rick Carroll said. “It went back and fourth throughout the game. Again, we missed some fairly easy opportunities going to the hole.”

The Lady Wolves were only shooting 52 percent at the free-throw line. This is something the team has been struggling with lately. Unfortunately, these missed shots are the difference between winning and losing the game.

Defensively, the Lady Wolves were doing well against Evanston. He said they were taking care of the Lady Red Devil’s best shooters.

“I felt we did a good job throughout the game,” Carroll said.

Leading the team during the Evanston game, was Taylor Stoeger with 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals.

On Monday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Jackson for a makeup game. It was worth the team’s trip when they won the game, 47-22. Carroll said Jackson has been struggling this season, but are doing better.

“They have improved. They are a better team then we had seen at the beginning of the season,” Carroll said.

The Lady Wolves started off the game slow and allowed Jackson to score 10 to their 16 points in the first quarter. After that, the Lady Wolves executed defensive plays better and held Jackson to three points in the second quarter, four points in the third quarter and five in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Wolves sunk 10 out of 14 shoots at free-throw line for a shooting percentage of 71 percent. However, Carroll said the Lady Wolves still have a low shooting percentage from the field.

“We need to improve there,” Carroll said.

Overall, the Lady Wolves played a good game against Jackson.

“I think they feel good about the way they played,” Carroll said.

Leading the Lady Wolves in the Jackson game was Andri Dewey with 13 points and five rebounds, followed by Stoeger with 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals, Madelyn Heiser with eight points, four rebounds, five steals and Ashelynn Birch with eight points and four rebounds.

The win and the loss, take the Lady Wolves to 3-4 in conference play. However, all records go out the window when playing the biggest rival, Rock Springs, which will take place Thursday in Rock Springs at 6 p.m.
