Laython E. Batey

Laython E. Batey, 69, passed away Nov. 22, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. A longtime resident of Green River and former resident of Carlsbad, N.M., Batey died following a three year battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1947 in Herrin, Ill., the son of Thomas and Myrtle Batey. Batey attended schools in Carlsbad, N.M., and graduated with the class of 1965. He married the love of his life, Evelyn "Darlene" Batey, on March 3, 1965 in Pacos, Texas and went on to work in the coal and trona industries for 48 years.

His interests were guns, reloading, hunting, camping, football, spending time with his family and his "fur" baby K.C.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Evelyn "Darlene" Batey of

Green River; two daughters, Lynn Paxton and husband Jeff and Lori

Rockwell and husband Donnie, all of Green River; one son, Laython "Gene"

Batey, Jr. and wife Hollie of Rock Springs; eight grandchildren; 13

great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jerran Socash

and Pat Cox.

Cremation will take place and memorial services will take place at
