The Green River High School girls swimming team showed they were a force to be reckoned with at the 4A West Regional swim meet.
Having a chance to swim in their home pool, the girls ended the competition with the regional championship.
The girls had a number great finishes in the competition, including a few first-place finishes. Green River's A Team in the 200-yard medley relay took first the event with a time of 1:55.53 in the finals. They finished at 1:56:68 in the preliminaries.
Sophomore Ashley Jensen finished first in the 200-yard individual medley, swimming a 2:25.88 in the preliminaries and 2:22.60 in the finals. Junior Avery Otto-Horn took first in 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. In the 50-yard freestyle, Otto-Horn finished 24.99 in the preliminaries and 24.83 in the finals, while finishing 1:00.97 in the 100-yard butterfly preliminaries and 58:88 in the finals.
Freshman Sydni Sanders took first in the 500-yard freestyle event, finishing 5:42.09 in the preliminaries and 5:36.85 in the finals. Green River's relay teams also took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. In the 400 relay, Green River finished 3:59.51 in the preliminaries and 3:54.77 in the finals while finishing 1:46.44 in the 200 freestyle preliminaries and 1:44.00 in the finals.
Others placed well during the competition also. Sanders took second in the 200-yard freestyle. Freshman Cherylann Moritz took third in the 200-yard IM and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle while sophomore Alexis King took second in the 100-yard freestyle. Jensen finished second in the 500-yard freestyle and junior Jeese Lauze finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Head coach Colleen Seiloff said the girls' performances is the result of their continued determination in practice.
"They've been really dedicated. They're young, experienced and understand the competitiveness they need to succeed," Seiloff said.
The girls will have a last chance meet Thursday at the high school aquatics center at 4 p.m. With a dozen girls qualified to attend the state meet in Gillette, Seiloff said she believes a few more have a chance to make state-qualifying times during the meet.
