Library hosts GR Lego club

Legos, those ubiquitous Danish building blocks, have long been a popular toy line for children and teens who enjoy building whatever they imagine.

The Sweetwater County Library, looking to help foster a creative spark in children and host a fun activity, started its Lego Club Monday afternoon.

The club isn't the library's first foray into Lego-based activities. The library has hosted Lego parties in the past and the system's White Mountain branch in Rock Springs has hosted Lego clubs in the past. The Green River library, through previous donations, have collected enough bricks to fill two large plastic containers, an amount of Legos easily valued at several hundreds of dollars.

Becky Iwen, Youth Services Manager for the Sweetwater County, said the club idea came about after deciding to do something with the plastic toys on a regular basis.

Kids sign up with the club with a small card, kept on file at the library. The card has punch holes representing how many club activities the child has participated in.

Filling the punch card, the child receives Lego-shaped crayons. Iwen said the club will have specific challenges and tasks for the kids, such as building animals out of the plastic bricks.
