Kids enjoy new playground equipment at Washington

Students at Washington Elementary waited patiently as they watched the construction workers put the finishing touches on some new playground equipment.

During a short ribbon-cutting ceremony last week, they watched from behind an orange construction fence as the representatives from the city, school board and the district showed off the new equipment, but weren't able to play because the district workers needed to finish the installation.

They weren't able to actually use their new toys until the next day, when they took to the playground overlooking the school with excitement.

According to Superintendent Donna Little-Kaumo, the district routinely replaces and updates playground equipment throughout the district.

For Washington, the amount spent on new playground equipment was approximately $40,000, which came from the district recreation board fund.

The fund is a mill levy used exclusively for recreation and physical activity within the district's schools.
