GRHS tennis team starts season 1-1

The Green River High School Varsity Tennis Team started the season well with a victory over Powell Friday, but faltered in a close loss to Cody the next day.

Green River’s boys defeated Powell 4-1, while the girls won 3-2. In Cody, the boys lost 2-3, while the girls lost 1-4.

Head coach Phil Harder said the team has worked hard in addressing key fundamentals during their practices, choosing one item and drilling on that item throughout the practice.

With the match in Cody, Harder said it could have gone either way for the team.

Going into their last week of practice before conference play begins, Green River will play their rivals in Rock Springs Thursday at Rock Springs High School, followed by competition in Casper against Natrona County High School and Sheridan. Harder said playing in Rock Springs is always fun for the team as Rock Springs is close to Green River. Regarding their upcoming stop in Casper, Harder said Kelly Walsh won’t be on their regular season schedule this year, but will compete against GRHS next year. Harder said both teams would prefer to face one another in the regular season as it helps players get used to other playing styles.
