Blake seeks re-election to legislature

Stan Blake, who has represented House District 39 for the past 10 years, is seeking another two years in the Wyoming Legislature.

Blake, a democrat, said he values integrity, common sense, government transparency and working across party lines to do what's right for Wyoming. He also supports the Second Amendment and individual privacy rights.

Blake has served on a number of committees during his time with the Wyoming Legislature. He has served on the House Transportation, Highways and Military Affairs Committee and was made the vice-chairman last year. He also has served on the House Agriculture, State and Public Lands and Water Resources Committee. He was appointed to the Select Water Committee in 2009 and placed on the Select Federal Natural Resource Management Committee in 2013.

While serving on the Agriculture and Select Water Committees, he has firsthand experience with attempts to divert water to the Colorado Front Range.

"We need to stay vigilant to protect Wyoming's water resources for our use," Blake said in an election announcement.

Blake is also against attempts to grant the state ownership of federal lands, saying he thinks the state needs a larger say in what happens to federal lands within Wyoming, but control should remain with the federal government.

Serving on the Highways, Transportation and Military Affairs Committee, Blake will continue to support the state's military reserves and their families. In 2012, he was the main sponsor of the Gold Star License Plate bill, which expands eligibility for family members who lost loved ones during their military service. During the last session, he was pleased to see the Retired Firefighters License Plate Renewal bill pass through the legislature. The bill was brought to Blake by a retired firefighter who thought the license plate process could be simplified.

Blake said he likes being able to have positive impacts on situations where people face problems involving the state government, such as cases involving workers compensation or the Wyoming Department of Health.

"Whenever I can make a difference in bettering someone else's life, that makes it rewarding," Blake said. "I am able to cut through a lot of red tape and get some results."

He has also received a number of awards for his legislative work, including awards from the Wyoming Highway Patrol Association and the Wyoming Veterans Association.

Blake lives in Green River and is employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as a switchman. He is a member of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail Transportation Union, Local 1857. He is a member of the National Rifle Association and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 2350. He and his wife, Terri June, have four children and 12 grandchildren.
