Justice center hosts run with area police chiefs

County residents will have a chance to enjoy the spring weather during a run with the area’s chiefs of police.

The annual Run with the Chiefs 5K and 10K races will take place in Green River April 30, making it the first time the event has taken place in the city. The previous two races have both taken place in Rock Springs.

The race starts at 9 a.m. and starts at the Expedition Island Pavilion, following a path along the Greenbelt.

According to Aimee Gatzke, director of the Sweetwater County Family Justice Center, the organization hosts the races as a fundraiser in conjunction with the area’s law enforcement. The justice center operates with help from multiple agencies throughout Sweetwater County, including both city police departments, the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office and the Sweetwater County Attorney’s Office. Gatzke said the event promotes the justice center, as well as awareness of domestic and sexual abuse occurring in the county.

“The law enforcement agencies want to ... cooperate together and bring awareness to that county-wide problem,” Gatzke said.

Gatzke said the event brings the justice center approximately $1,000 each year, which is used to serve the abuse victims utilizing the center’s services.
