Cross country looks forward to 2015 season

After completing the Green River Invite and Cardinal Classic in Soda Springs, Idaho, head coach Steve Boyd is excited to see how the Green River High School Cross Country team will perform in their upcoming runs.

Boyd, who has coached the team for the past 10 years, said the runners continually get better as their fitness improves. He said the team’s fitness levels run the gamut from poor to excellent, but looks forward to see how much the team improves over the course of the season.

“We only had a few kids who ran significant mileage over the summer and many are in the first phase of training, others are ready for the tougher workouts,” Boyd said.

Boyd also said he looks forward to coaching senior Josie Givens, saying she is possibly the best runner in GRHS’s history.

The team prepares for the Murray, Utah invite Friday at Murray Park. Boyd said the run he’s looking forward to is the Wasatch Invite at Soldier Hollow, near Heber City, Utah. The meet, taking place Sept. 25, is the first time GRHS has competed in that event. Boyd said the course features a lot of rolling hills and should prove to be a challenge for the Wolves.

“We have never attended this meet, so it should be fun and an interesting course to run,” Boyd said.
