2015 looks promising for varsity volleyball

“I think they’re expecting big things,” head coach Rikki Shantz said about her varsity volleyball team.

Shantz, in her seventh year as head coach, said both she and the team are excited about the upcoming season. So far, the team has competed in two tournaments and ended both of them in the championship game after losing their first match. Those experiences go far in helping Shantz work on the team’s confidence level and show them they can win.

Shantz said she has five returning players who have seen a lot of play during the 2014 season. In that group, four are seniors and one is a junior. Shantz said she’s constantly looking to see where the team can improve itself, adding that fundamental skills such as passing are something her team is always focusing on.

Shantz said she’s been with the current group of seniors for a long time and believes the team can compete against and beat the larger schools in their division.

“I know we have a lot of talent and skill,” Shantz said. “I’m really excited to see where they take themselves.”
