Letter: The deer are a problem

Dear Editor,

Where did AIDS come from? An animal. Where does Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever begin? With a tick. Which critter brings Lyme disease to humans?

The DEER tick. What happens when deer get diarrhea from eating gardens in Green River? They leave deer patties in lawns and parks all over town. How many little kids play with, walk on, sit on, those deer patties? How many diseases are being spread from deer to humans?

In the middle of summer, one of the deer feasting on my garden was so sick its ribs were showing.  Maybe we aren’t having a major outbreak of disease, but what kinds of diseases are being transmitted of which we are unaware?

I believe it is Sheridan which has taken action: first, they allowed specially trained bowhunters to hunt the deer. Now they equip the police to shoot the deer, fully using safety practices.

I like to watch deer, but I am tired of cleaning up patties from deer in my front yard.

Unhappily,

Jan Scott

Green River
