Police seek graffiti vandals

Recreation center, day care center targeted

The Green River Police Department is currently investigating recent reports of vandalism to local businesses and vehicles.

According to Green River Police Department Det. Luke Benson, sometime around July 27 and 28 during the night or early morning, the Walk N Run Day Care and a vehicle on the property, the Green River Recreation Center, and a vehicle on Alabama Drive were spray painted with red spray paint.

Benson said the person or persons remain unknown. Some of the identifiable marks were a smiley face and the words KEMPO and Wicked.

Also, during the early morning of Aug. 9 officers noticed the American Legion, OT’s Sports Bar, Mercantile building and the former Payless Store were vandalized with black spray paint. The vandalism was found in the alley between the 0-100 block of East Flaming Gorge Way and East Railroad Avenue.

According to Benson, the police department believe the damage happened earlier that morning or in the late hours of the night on Aug. 8.

A few of the spray painted words were accompanied by a smiley face.

Benson said it is unknown whether there is any gang connotation in the vandalism or not.
