Notes from Town Square: Serving the community

The Green River URA/Main Street Agency was established to help improve the overall business environment of Green River, and to revitalize the downtown main street area of our city.  It has been our goal to serve the citizens by helping existing businesses grow, become more visible, and increase in number.  Also, we are tasked with the revitalization of our urban areas of influence to assist in beautifying, and decreasing the blight that may occur over time due to the neglect of property, both business and residential.  This blight would only add to the decline of an area and inhibit the community’s ability to attract new residents, and business alike.

With the short explanation of the agencies purpose, it is all done with volunteers from our great city of Green River, and one employee, serving as Director.  Since the work is done with all volunteers, it is imperative that we call on those citizens that truly care for the city that they live in, and want to see it become what we all know it can be.

Fund raising efforts are a great part of it via Farmers Markets, charity events, and other events presented by the agency.  This all takes time and participation.

For instance the upcoming Flaming Gorge Days, the URA/Main Street will have a food booth to try to raise said funds, all manned by unpaid volunteers.

We are in need of more volunteers on various committees, such as promotions, organization, design, and economic restructuring.  So if you have any of the skill sets, have questions on what these committees entail, or just want to help in any capacity to help maintain, and grow the great city of Green River in which you live, please contact Director, Jennie Melvin at 872-0592, or visit the city’s website.

We look forward to seeing you all at all the upcoming events and especially, Farmers Market.

“A volunteer is a person who can see what others cannot see; who can feel what most do not feel. Often, such gifted persons do not think of themselves as volunteers, but as citizens - citizens in the fullest sense: partners in civilization.”
