Ladies focus on physicality

The Green River High School girl’s soccer team quest for a state title will begin Thursday against Laramie.

The second seeded Lady Wolves will take on third-seed Laramie (10-4-2) at 11 a.m. at Rock Springs Junior High School.

“I think we need to play more physical,” Wyant said about Thursday’s match.

She believes soccer teams in the western portion of the state don’t play as physically as teams in the east. Wyant said the Lady Plainsmen play very fast and physical games, which will force the Lady Wolves to up their game.

“We have to match that level of play,” Wyant said.

During the team’s last few practices, Wyant said she has worked to not only physically prepare her team for Laramie, but mentally prep the players as well. The team’s best practice occurred Monday, with Wyant putting pressure on the team to do what needs to be done in their Thursday match. She said the team has the talent and drive to win, but needs to win the ball from Laramie’s players and put everything they’ve worked on to use in the game.

After winning the regular season 4A West Crown, Green River advanced to the finals of last week’s 4A West Regional Tournament, but were defeated 3-0 by Kelly Walsh. The Lady Wolves advanced to the finals after a 1-0 victory against rival Rock Springs in the semifinals.
