Cheeks in the seats: Senior night for Wolves soccer

The Green River High School varsity soccer teams will wrap up the 2015 regular season Friday against Riverton.

Much like I’ve done throughout the school year, I’d like to encourage local residents to cheer the team on as they inch closer to the postseason.

The Lady Wolves are getting close to wrapping up a 4A West Conference championship and deserve a large crowd to cheer them on Friday against Riverton. If you haven’t watched them, it’s a treat. They are one of the best offensive teams in the state and when they flip the switch, the goals come and they come quickly. They can turn a close game into a blowout in a matter of minutes.

When this team is clicking, they can defeat anybody in the state and are one of four or five teams that could bring home a state title later this month.

It’s also very important for people to get out and support the boy’s team. It’s been an up and down season for Green River, but they have never stopped playing hard. Despite losing a multitude of players this season, the undermanned team has shown it can play with anybody in the state. They have defeated Jackson and taken second-ranked Natrona down to the wire, twice.

They don’t complain about not having players, they just go out onto the pitch and play with fire. I expect this team to finish the regular season in style and carry momentum over to the regional tournament next week in Rock Springs. They have never given up, even when things were bad. That is the sign of a well coached team and a bunch of great kids.

You always here there is nothing to do in Sweetwater County. Well there is plenty of soccer to watch the next few weeks. Get out and support the kids who proudly wear GRHS on their jerseys.
