Green River shifts focus to 4A West

The Green River High School wrestling team wrapped up the regular season with a 66-16 thumping of rival Rock Springs.

Winning for the Wolves in the last dual of the year were Chance Anderson, Zack Orr, Cole Verner, Kaycee Cochrane, Shandon Welsh, Austin Waters and Hunter Hanks.

The seniors on the team were recognized before the dual. Seniors on the 2014-15 team are Verner, Waters, Hanks, Kole Case, Chase O’Melia, Jared Flores and Colton Hopkins.

Green River head coach Marshall Rhodes said it was kind of disappointing that not all of the seniors could wrestle on senior night, and that the team didn’t get more matches overall, but that is the way it goes sometimes with illness and injuries.

“The ones that wrestled matches wrestled hard and we did what we needed to do. I am proud of the kids for winning all the duals against our conference opponents but we see the bigger goal ahead,” he said.

This week, Green River will travel 12 miles to compete at the 4A West Regional Meet Friday and Saturday in Rock Springs.

“I look forward to a couple of good weeks of practice, get some kids back off of injury and sickness, and make one more push as far as shape and fixing some technical problems,” Rhodes said. “We will be ready to go for the regional tournament this week.”
