Carroll takes over as Lady Wolves coach

Nearly 20 years ago, head coach Rick Carroll helped lead the Green River High School girl’s basketball to the Wyoming 4A State Championship game in Casper.

This Friday night, Carroll will return to the sidelines for the Lady Wolves when they travel to take on Star Valley.

He will take over for Aric Hanusa who resigned as head coach four games into his first season as coach.

Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Activities Director Tom Wilson said Monday Hanusa requested to step down from the position so he could focus on his classroom work as a welding teacher and support the development of the vocational department at the high school.

Carroll retired two years ago after serving as head coach of the Green River High School boy’s team for 14 seasons. Prior to coaching the boys team, he had a successful nine-year stint with the Lady Wolves.

His record as girls coach was 140-77, which includes a second-place finish at the state tournament.

Wilson said Carroll started his coaching duties Monday and will be assisted by Duke Haynes. A P.E. teacher at Expedition Academy, Haynes is a former assistant under Carroll. Casey Allen will also help coach the team.

The Lady Wolves are 2-2 on the season.
