Geraldine Ray (Sis) Nelson

Geraldine Ray (Sis) Nelson, 81, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Foxfield, Colo., on Dec. 18, 2014, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Nelson was born on Nov. 26, 1933, in Poteau, Okla., to Raymond A. and Bertha M. Carden.

She lived in Oklahoma and attended school in Poteau until her father moved the family to Mt. Harris, Colo., where she graduated from Hayden High School with the class of 1951.

Shortly after her high-school graduation, the family moved to Hanna, Wyo., and she became employed at the Carbon County Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. She met her husband, Robert O. Fling in Rawlins, Wyo., and they were married on Jan. 19, 1952, at her parent's home in Hanna. Three children were born into this marriage; Robert O. Fling Jr., Cynthia Kay Fling and Cheryl Lee Fling.

She and her first husband were later divorced; and she then married her soulmate, Charles Edward (Red) Nelson in Littleton, Colo., on May 26, 1978. She and her husband lived in the Denver area and spent several years in Old Mexico until her husband's health led them back to Colorado. Her husband preceded her in death on March 21, 1991.

After her husband's death, Mrs. Nelson moved to Green River and lived with her younger sister, Charlotte and her husband Jerry Copeland until March of 2012. She worked at Smith's Food and Drug for several years as a courtesy clerk until her retirement.

She was a friend to many, and until her health slowed her down, she loved dancing, playing cards, listening to music, fishing, camping, working word search puzzles and painting by number. She was a member of the Sweetwater Eagles Auxiliary for many years and loved to help with Sunday breakfast.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Charles, son Robert O. Fling Jr., nephew Glenn Eugene Stone and son-in-law Andy Gilmore.

She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Molk and companion Dino of Foxfield, Colo., Cheryl Gilmore and companion Kenny of Phippsburg, Colo., two sisters; Dorothy Stone and husband Gene of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Charlotte Copeland and husband Jerry of Green River, twin brothers, Donald Carden and wife Jackie of Silverdale, Wash., and Ronald Carden and companion Nancy of Quincy, Wash., four grandchildren; Jeremy Quintana, Robert O. Fling III and wife DeAnna, Brian Dale, Valerie Kaufmann and husband Richard, all of Denver. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and many friends.

Cremation has taken place; and a celebration of life memorial service will be in Green River at a later date for her family and friends.
