Green River hosts regionals

The Green River High School volleyball team will have a distinct advantage at this weeks 4A West Regional Tournament.

For the first time in six years, the Lady Wolves will host the tournament with games scheduled to take place starting Friday at 11 a.m.

Fifth-seeded Green River will open the tournament Friday at 1 p.m. against fourth-seed Evanston.

The Lady Red Devils defeated Green River last week in five sets. Head coach Rikki Shantz said her team did not play very well and was still almost able to beat Evanston.

She added they are on the verge of defeating them.

With the game being played in their home gym, Shantz said she is excited, and more importantly the girls seem to be excited about the opportunity.

Because the team has not qualified for state since 2009, Shantz said it will be important to make it to state, especially for the younger girls on the team. She said they need to get there and experience what its like to be part of it.
