Travis Ray McDowell

Travis Ray McDowell, 38, passed away Oct. 19, 2014 at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. He died struggling to recover from injuries following an automobile accident.

Travis was born in Chisago City, Minn. on July 11, 1976 to Donald Ray McDowell and Cindy Coral (Benson) McDowell. After living in Minnesota and Texas, his family settled in Green River. It was there that he spent his childhood and graduated from Green River High School in 1995.

During his school years, he was active in many sports, especially excelling in swimming. He swam a strong butterfly stroke and contributed to the Wolves high school boys swim team, winning many awards. Other interests included working on his trucks, bull riding, fishing, and being part of a first-place archery team.

After graduation he attended Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, Ariz. He graduated, specializing in auto and diesel mechanics. So began his lifelong occupation, currently working independently as a mobile mechanic in the Salt Lake City area. Another passion was body building, in which he won the title of Mister Utah Novice Division. He loved being a personal trainer and helping people achieve their goals.

In 2000, he married Temple Taggart. They were later divorced. From this union came his two sons, Brasher and Titan. They have been the light of his life, bringing him immense pride and happiness.

He married Lindsey McCoy. They were later divorced.

Survivors include mother Cindy (McDowell) Huebner and husband Tom of Green River, brother Trent McDowell (Kayla) of Carlsbad, Calif., and sister Taryn Rosenthal (Scott) of San Jose, Calif. Sons Brasher Stone McDowell and Titan Cole McDowell of Lehi, Utah; grandfather Robert McDowell of Lyman and companion Jen Nellis of Sandy, Utah; uncles Jerry (Sharon) McDowell of Pine City, Minn., John (BobbiKae) McDowell of Lyman, Mike McDowell of Nibley, Utah, Gene McDowell of Rock Springs, Corby Benson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Chris (Juanita) Benson of Eagan, Minn.; many cousins and his new puppy, Axel.

He was preceded in death by his father Donald McDowell, grandparents Peggy McDowell, and Charles and Carole Benson, and aunt Sharon McDowell.

A Viewing and visitation has been held the Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home in South Jordan, Utah on Tuesday. Cremation followed.

A memorial service will be conducted at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church in Rock Springs Friday, at 2 p.m. Interment immediately following the ceremony at Riverview Cemetery in Green River.
