GRHS Band thrills crowd

With the state competition a little over a week away, Green River High School Marching Band Director Jerrid Washburn wants to see improvement each time the band performs.

“Every time we get on the field whether it’s practice or a performance, we want it to be better than the last time. If were doing that, than the ratings we’d like to see will take care of themselves,” he said.

The competition is slated for Oct. 18 in Casper and Washburn said the 75-member band is getting close to being ready.

“There is still some polishing and work that needs to be done, but they are improving every time they get of the field and that’s the direction you’d like to see things going,” he said.

After the graduation of 29 seniors, he said the the marching band is a lot younger in 2014, but they have really stepped up and are doing well.

This year during their halftime performances, the band and Washburn chose to perform the music of Harry Potter.

He said last year during the spring he picked out a handful of ideas and they voted on what would be the most fun and what they would like to do. The Green River band will be the first to compete at the event in Casper and Washburn said they are excited, but also nervous.

“You go out there and all you can do is what you can do,” he said.
