Jose Lorenzo Valdez

 


Jose Lorenzo Valdez, 76, of Rock Springs passed away at his home Sept. 10, 2014. A longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Point of Rocks, Valdez passed away following a lengthy illness.

Valdez was born in Las Vegas, N.M. on Aug. 9, 1938, the son of Jose Bartolo Valdez and Maria Nativida Nolan.

He married Frances Evila Lovato in Cheyenne on Nov. 29, 1975.

Valdez worked as a section foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad for 15 years until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community.

His interests included playing his guitar and accordion, singing country and western songs and was a very good mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Evila Valdez of Rock Springs; mother, Maria Nativida Henderson of Las Vegas, N.M .; three sons, Anthony Lawrence Valdez of Las Vegas, Nev., Albert Ambrose Valdez of Las Vegas, Nev. and Joseph John Valdez of Rock Springs; three daughters, Darlene Linda Gonzales of Las Vegas, Nev., Melissa Olivia Haley of St. George, Utah and Kathy Erica Zuno of St. George, Utah; three brothers, Vincent Valdez of Loveland, Colo., Luke Valdez of Mora, N.M. and Frank Valdez of Las Vegas, Nev. and two sisters Virginia Chilton of Kendrick, Idaho and Jennifer Martinez of Laramie; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Gary Atencio.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass took place 10 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Saints Cyril Methodius Catholic Church in Rock Springs.
