Police department moves next week

The Green River Police Department and the city's municipal court will start moving in to their new building on Flaming Gorge Way next week, according to Acting City Administrator and Chief of Police Chris Steffen.

The building was the site of a dedication celebration last month during Riverfest, but remained vacant as a result of workers completing punch list items.

A punch list is a list of fixes and final work required to be completed prior to the city accepting ownership the building.

The move is anticipated to start Monday, with the department expected to become operational at the building by the end of the week.

"It definitely looks like that's when it will occur," Steffen said.

The move in concludes a long process that started nearly a decade ago to find a new location for the police department after the department started to outgrow its current location at City Hall.

The building was completed through a combination of capital project loans, grant funding and city funds.

The building was part of the sixth-penny tax initiative in 2012, but was defeated during the general election.

The city decided to carry on with the project, citing voters from Green River's districts showing a majority of support for the new building.

The space currently occupied by the police department will be rented out to SW-Wrap for use as office and storage space.

The rental agreement was approved earlier this year, despite concerns about the city competing with private business in renting its property.
