Cemetery hunter cited

A man who allegedly hunted deer at Riverview Cemetery received citations from both the Green River Police Department and Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

Darrell Gilson, 41, of Green River received the citations Sept. 7 when GRPD officers responded to reports of a man allegedly hunting in the cemetery.

Det. Luke Benson with the GRPD said the cemetery is within the department’s jurisdiction, which resulted in the citation. According to the Green River Municipal Court’s citation schedule, the fine for hunting within city limits is $400.

Benson said when police arrived, Gilson had allegedly killed a deer. Police then called the Wyoming Game and Fish to respond to the scene. Andy Roosa, a game warden for the Game and Fish Department responded to the scene and cited Gilson for failure to tag a big game animal.

The fine assessed on that citation is listed at $220.

While Green River does have a number of deer living within the city, Benson said the police department doesn’t receive a lot of calls about residents hunting within city limits.

“As far as I know, we don’t,” Benson said.

Roosa said people hunting within city limits isn’t a huge issue for the Game and Fish Department either.
