Fred Zupence

Fred Zupence, 73, of Green River, passed away at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2014.

A lifelong resident of Green River and Rock Springs, Zupence passed away following a brief illness.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1940 in Rock Springs, the son of the late Frank Zupence and Mary Bozner.

Zupence attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School.

He served in the United States Navy from 1960 until 1966

Zupence married Mary Shaw in Rock Springs and they later divorced.

He worked as an underground miner for OCI for 38 years until his retirement on Feb. 1, 2003 and also was a cook at the Sweetwater County Jail for several years.

His interests included hunting, fishing, camping, arrowhead hunting, cooking, baking and spending time with his dogs, friends and family.

Survivors include two sons, Matthew James Zupence of Green River and Adam Frederick Zupence of Green River; three sisters Elizabeth Coet of Pinedale, Marie Walker of Lyman and Cecilia Kohl of Rock Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Frank Zupence.

Cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends took place today at the the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel in Green River.
