While speaking to seniors at Golden Hour Senior...

  • Letter: Speak against same-sex marriage

    Oct 8, 2014

Dear Editor, Cherished neighbors, why do we live in Wyoming? Is it the wide vistas of beauty? Or is it that new 10 cents a gallon gas tax? Why do we love Wyoming? Is it because of the feeling of freedom? Or is it that new lottery which draws in more young spenders than older. Citizens across Wyoming, I am writing because I need your help. How your legislators vote affects me and my family. What concerns me even more than the gas tax or the lottery is the preservation of marriage and family in Wyoming. Wyoming law, statue 20-1-101, defines... Full story

  • Article should not have used initials

    Oct 8, 2014

Dear Editor, After reading an article in your paper on Wednesday I found myself once again questioning why certain information is included in some articles. I think it might be fair to say, law enforcement understands the newspaper business as well as the newspaper business understands law enforcement/prosecution business. Anyway, that’s what I tell myself when I read/hear some things being reported in the news. What I do understand is there are specific laws that control the release of certain information, and I understand why those laws... Full story

  • Sometimes, more sensitivity is needed

    David Martin, Editor|Oct 8, 2014

By DAVID MARTIN Editor Normally in this space, readers find an unsigned editorial detailing the newspaper’s position on some issue going on that affects Green River’s residents in some way. This week, we’re changing things up to address an important concern that’s come up in the last week. Last week, we published a story following up on a court case involving a man who sexually abused a girl. The man appeared at a probation revocation and through that, the story then recapped the events...

  • Celebrate Harry Potter

Jason Grubb, Sweetwater County Library System|Oct 8, 2014

This weekend we are celebrating the Harry Potter books by hosting a Harry Potter Party from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sweetwater County Library in Green River. Fans of all ages are invited to dress up as their favorite Harry Potter character and come enjoy crafts, snacks, games, activities and more. When the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, hit bookshelves in the U.S. in 1998 I wasn’t a fan. Many people were not, including several publishers who rejected J.K. Rowling’s manuscript. Some publishers thought the book... Full story

  • Making cider and memories

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Oct 8, 2014

Growing up on a farm, I had a lot of childhood memories. I was hoping my children would also have some of those same memories, but that idea was crushed when my parents decided to sell their Minnesota dairy farm. They needed to; and it was time, but it was still hard to say goodbye to the old homestead. This was numerous years ago. I cannot even remember what year, but this week I was reminded that my children can still have great childhood memories without a farm. My family recently made a trip...

  • What happens in Vegas doesn't stay there

    Jack H. Smith, Staff Writer|Oct 8, 2014

By JACK H. SMITH Staff Writer While a lot of my fellow Americans were making their way to Apple Stores last week to see if they could bend the display models for the iPhone 6 or to properly secure their houses to prevent any intrusion from Ebola zombies, I found myself making the nine-hour voyage to Las Vegas. The popular marketing slogan states that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but if that were the case I should probably stop typing now. After a chaotic literally earth shaking trip to...

    Jack H. Smith, Staff Writer|Oct 8, 2014

With the state competition a little over a week away, Green River High School Marching Band Director Jerrid Washburn wants to see improvement each time the band performs. “Every time we get on the field whether it’s practice or a performance, we want it to be better than the last time. The competition is slated for Oct. 18 in Casper and Washburn said the 75-member band is getting close to being ready. “There is still some polishing and work...

During regular toddler times, which are Mondays at 10 a.m. Becky Iwen, youth services assistant, uses "The Very Ready Reading Program" as her guide. This program encourages parents to follow seven easy ways...
